Taking It Easy Project Students Find Times of Rest, Fellowship
by Brian Tulbert, Medical Student

After hearing about all of the ministry opportunities, one might be thinking, "Did they ever have time to rest?" Indeed, we had several opportunities to take advantage of the fun activities around the Los Angeles area in what we called "Project Fun Days."

Intended to develop cohesion among project students, these fun days held once a week, were highly beneficial in helping unify our group. This unity, in turn, strengthened our ministry as we grew in love for one another to serve the Lord together. Additionally, as the famous quote states, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." We needed time off from our busy schedules to relax. Not to mention the fact that most of us are in need of breaks after completing a challenging year of either medical, nursing, pharmacy or physician-assistant school.

The first diversion was to the beach at Corona Del Mar. The volleyball net was hoisted, the fire pits were lit, and the frisbees were flying. Braver students even enjoyed swimming in the cold water! All in all, we had a great time taking in His beautiful creation. After cooking hot dogs for dinner, we sang worship songs and even ministered to others on the beach as they joined us in glorifying God.

The next week, we were able to satisfy two desires. Those wanting to test their limits by seeing how many G's they can pull on a roller coaster made the trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Meanwhile, the teacup and "It's a Small World" satisfied those craving a trip to Disneyland.

During our third week, we were blessed with the opportunity to visit the L.A. Homeless Mission, a Christian organization that has truly helped turn "Skid Row" into "Hope Central." Before heading home, however we were able to visit some tourist spots like Hollywood, Beverley Hills, Rodeo Drive, and the LA Dodgers baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Another one of our most memorable ministry opportunities was our medical mission to Mexico. En route back to Redlands, we stopped in San Diego to visit the beautiful scenery of Torrey Pines State Park and La Jolla, CA. Hiking down to the beach through the gorgeous mountains afforded good time to consider what we had seen and learned in Mexico.

Though Fun Days were times to rest, we were by no means separated from ministry. Whether it was by handing out food, sharing the gospel or praying with others, we continued to minister to many who were around us. We continue to praise God that He will use jars of clay to share the love of Christ with so many. In conclusion, the Lord blessed the group with opportunities for rest, and we truly understood the benefit rest had to our ministry as we continued to give all the glory to God.
