A Health Student Summer Mission Project
Southern California

Video Orthopedic Surgeon and Preceptorship alumnus David Downs, MD discusses his summer at the preceptorship, residency match, and research.

2009 Preceptorship: June 20 - July 21

Many Christian health students long to integrate their faith into their professional practice. National studies indicate that 60%-70% of patients want their health provider to address their spiritual needs. Yet most professionals do not know how to do this and health students are not taught. Spend four weeks during the summer learning to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of your patients.

Experienced Christian physicians and nurses will train you to care for the whole person - body, mind, and soul - in an ethical, caring, sensitive, and non-coercive manner. In numerous healthcare settings, you'll apply what you've learned by offering the life-changing hope of Jesus Christ. Read More

"The project was one of the best things to happen to my medical career and, indeed, my life. As a current student and future physician, I am better able to truly and wholly treat my patients."

In debating whether to come to the preceptorship or do research, the pivotal question I answered was "Will there be another opportunity to learn to ethically bring Jesus in to my practice in such a focused and effective time." The answer was no. I indeed learned an immense amount as well as made friends who touched my life.

"This is a great place to invest a summer for any medical student seriously interested in becoming a physician after God's own heart."
