Significance Found in Small Groups
by Kerry Williams, medical student
It began with three deadly words: Soul to Soul. What? After approximately 6 days of knowing
these people, I'm going to have to tell them my life story? Yep, every sinle bit of it. Oh, and don't
forget to be vulnerable, this is a "safe environment." Whatever! Is anyone else just a tiny bit
apprehensive about this? Well, if you are like most people, you would be.
Consisting of 5-6 students, one group mentor and one group facilitator, small group truly started off
with a bang. Though it was initially intimidating, Soul to Soul turned out to be a valuable experience.
It se in motion what turned out to be one of the best, most open and honest small group experiences
that many people on the Project have ever had.
Firstly, you can tip your hats to the small group facilitators. It was really an honor to have them spend
time to invest in our lives. They masterfully created the "safe environment" as promised through
excellent leadership in small group and unforgettable guidance through mentoring.
Secondly, the students themselves can take a bow. We've done more for each other than we may
even realize: praying for each other, encouraging each other, and the list goes on. The best part about
this package deal is that after the Project, they are each just a free long distance minute away!
(Disclaimer: please call at a decent hour!)
Lastly, the Robert McGee book "The Search for Significance" was an excellent tool for discovering the
false beliefs we've held onto for years and replacing them daily with the truth of Jesus Christ found in the
Word of God. In all, these are lessons that we can take with us and use for the rest of our lives. KNOW
that you are, "...deeply loved, completely forgiven, fully pleasing, totally accepted, and complete in Christ"
(1 John 4:9-10; Rom: 3:19-25; 2 Cor. 5:21; Col, 1:21-22; 2 Cor. 5:17).
