Greetings. I am delighted that you are interested in our Whole Person Care Preceptorship. I cannot think of a better way for you to spend your summer.

As a practicing physician, professor of medicine, and medical researcher, I daily see the need for sensitive and ethical spiritual intervention in the lives of my patients. This Project is designed to equip you to meet such needs in the lives of your patients.

One of the things that excite me most about our Project is the hands-on training. We have recruited a team of gifted and caring Christian health professionals who are skilled in whole person care. You'll learn from them in real life clinical situations. You will also personally interact with patients and have ample opportunities to address their spiritual needs.

Your experiences at the Project will greatly accelerate the development of your patient interaction skills. I truly wish I could have had a similar opportunity when I was a medical student.

Of course, all of this training would be hollow without deepening your own walk with God. Careful planning and prayer has gone into providing a nurturing spiritual environment where you can take steps of faith and become a spiritual leader.

Perhaps you are wondering if you would be better off spending the summer in a medical research lab or doing other things to enhance your chances of entering a good residency program later on. I understand your anxiety and I had to wrestle with this question myself when I was at your stage of training. However, this project will help you discover how to eternally impact the lives of thousands of patients, classmates and colleagues not just for a summer, but for the rest of your professional career. The experiences will transform your view of medicine and give you a clear vision for how God can use you strategically in the health care profession. The timing of such first hand exposure is critical at this early stage of your professional development. I hope that you will decide to take advantage of this window of opportunity.

I pray that God will give you wisdom and courage as you seek His direction for your summer. Should He so lead, I look forward to meeting you personally this June in the beautiful mountains of Southern California.
