A Health Student Summer Mission Project
Southern California
2010 Preceptorship: June 12 - July 14

OVERVIEW

The Need is Real
Many Christian health students long to integrate their faith into their professional practice. National studies indicate that 60%-70% of patients want their health provider to address their spiritual needs. Yet most professionals do not know how to do this and health students are not taught.

Spend four weeks during the summer learning to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of your patients. You'll begin by participating in a Medical Evangelism Training & Strategies Conference (METS). Experienced Christian physicians and nurses will train you to care for the whole person - body, mind, and soul - in an ethical, caring, sensitive, and non-coercive manner. In numerous healthcare settings, you'll apply what you've learned by offering the life-changing hope of Jesus Christ. Care for a frightened child from a broken home in an inner-city clinic. Encounter the fast-paced ER. Participate in the care of patients with AIDS. You will develop life-long friendships while making an eternal difference in someone else's life.

Hands-On Training
Daily, you'll have direct patient care experiences in outpatient and hospital settings. Shadow Christian physician as they meet the physical and spiritual needs of patients.

In the evenings, you'll be involved in intensive Bible study and discipleship groups, led by Christian health professionals. Spiritual leadership development will prepare you to return to your campus and impact your Christian friends and reach your classmates for Christ. Participate in discussions on ethical issues facing health professionals and students. Plus, have a personal spiritual mentor to walk with you through the summer.

You'll grow in your own personal walk with God. Live in community with other Christian health students. Be stretched and challenged. As you trust God in new ways, you'll gain professional, ministry, and leadership skills so your life can be spent serving the Master physician.

Mexico Medical Mission Trip
During a portion of the project, you'll accompany a group of physicians and nurses to Ensenada, Mexico where you'll be able to provide "hands on" medical care to the less fortunate in a third world setting. By working in a Christian clinic and through offering health screenings in the community, you'll provide tangible expressions of Christ's love and personally share His Gospel message to many who do not know Him. If you don't speak Spanish, translators will be available.
